Disease: Primary mediastinal large B-cell lymphoma
Description of Condition:
I’ve lived in Shanghai for 17 years—it feels like home. At 40, I was diagnosed with a rare lymphoma, with a 15cm tumor between my heart and lung causing severe pain and breathing issues. Six rounds of chemotherapy (losing weight, hair and constant nausea), 20 rounds of radiotherapy and immunotherapy all failed to work long-term. I was desperate until June 2023, when China approved Axi-Cel CAR-T for my condition. I chose to stay in Shanghai—my kids go to school here, the cost is far lower than in Singapore, and there’s no waiting list. It was the best decision I ever made.
Treatment Process:
The therapy involved extracting my T cells, modifying them in a lab, stabilizing my condition, and then infusing the engineered CAR-T cells. Though risky, Jiahui’s multidisciplinary team—including oncologists, nurses and anesthesiologists—guided me through every step, and I was discharged from the hospital on September 13, 2023, exhausted but hopeful.
Recovery Situation:
One year later, I’m completely cancer-free! To celebrate, I went diving in Palau—something I never thought I’d be able to do again.
